This 25 day strength training program can be considered a beginner or intermediate level workout. It truly depends on how challenging you want to make it. You can start with very light weights or decide to challenge yourself with heavier weights as you gain more confidence and skill in using weights. Best Exercises to Strengthen Knees from Osteoarthritis | Knee Pain Relief | Exercises for Seniors

These were the best exercises to strengthen the muscles around my dad's knees so he could start to walk again pain-free. After walking with pain for over a year, my dad got his knee checked out and was diagnosed through an x-ray. The doctor prescribed a cream (which did nothing) and was told he could get cortisone shots if he felt he needed them for the pain. Instead, he decided to go to a physiotherapist who prescribed several exercises (smart decision!). Within four months, my dad was pain-free. He continues to do the exercises (almost daily) and currently walks over 10,000 steps a day without pain. I am not an expert on knee osteoarthritis so if you have pain in your knees, I highly recommend you see your medical doctor or a physiotherapist. It is best to know what is causing the pain. For those who have been diagnosed, hopefully, these exercises will work for you, too. Even if you don't have osteoarthritis, you can still do these exercises. The exercises will provide you with stretching and strengthening movements to become stronger and help you walk longer. I have also reached out to a physiotherapist colleague for a second opinion and confirmed the safety of these exercises. I will write out the exercises and upload them on www.improvedhealthforseniors.com if you would like to print them out. Thank you to my dad for teaching me about the exercises! I truly hope these exercises provide you with pain relief just like they did for my dad. He's 73 and walking more than ever! I truly hope you decide to do the strength and balance workout since this is more important and beneficial than cardio workouts. Building strength and improving balance allows you to be stronger, walk longer, prevent falls, tone up, build bone strength and make you feel better physically, and mentally, too! There are so many benefits to it but these workouts are often overlooked since people often choose cardio instead. If you really don't enjoy lifting weights, at least commit to strength training once a week. Ideally, 2-3 times a week would be best BUT if you always want to do cardio, at least dedicate one workout a week to building strength and improving balance. Okay, okay, I'll stop the lecture. I just want to mention I work with frail seniors every day and they don't need to be frail. In the majority of these people, they have made the choice not to exercise. If they had dedicated time to exercising and building strength, they wouldn't be in the position they are in today. You can make changes and change what the future holds for you. If you want to prevent falls and be able to walk for many more years, strength training will allow you to do that. In today's workout, I have provided a talking version with detailed instruction on how to perform each exercise. For those of you who are already familiar with strength training, I have created a 'no talking' version so you don't need to listen to me and you can just follow the workout. This is a beginner strength training workout created for seniors and beginners who have little-to-no experience. Strength training is great to building strength (obviously!), to get toned and best of all, to speed up metabolism! I explain each exercise as we go through them to ensure you understand proper form and technique. Even though I teach the exercises while standing, most of the exercises can also be followed by sitting in a chair. We'll cover all the major muscle groups today. There will be no music in the background today since a lot of viewers have expressed they prefer no music when I am giving instructions. Please feel free to put your own music on in the background:) I did not include a warm-up simply because I feel a lot of people will do a cardio workout before. I will be uploading a 5 minute warm up soon which you can do prior to this workout. Or, choose one of the short workouts I have uploaded already so you are properly warmed up before lifting heavier weights in this workout. Please challenge yourself by using heavier weights than you might usually use (I've explained it all in this video so you'll understand what weight to use).
