This 30 minute easy exercise program has been created for seniors needing gentle chair exercises. This is a similar program to what I facilitate with residents with dementia living in long term care homes/assisted living. No equipment is needed today. Since I have created this workout for persons with dementia in mind, I have decided to leave out extra distractions (no clock, no music and am talking in a calm, clear voice). If you wish to have music in the video, please play familiar music in the background (songs from the 50's and 60's or whatever music is enjoyed by the persons following along). Alzheimer's Disease | EXERCISES for DEMENTIA | Recreation Therapy

This workout is created specifically for people in moderate to advanced stages of dementia, including Alzheimer's Disease and any other type of dementia. I work as a Recreation Therapist with patients with dementia and have learned how to cater my class to best suit those with later stages of dementia. The moves are not complicated so they are easier to understand. I count since I find patients will often count with me and it is something they can still do. If your loved one can't lift their arms all the way due to shoulder injuries or loss of mobility, just encourage them to lift as far as it is comfortable. I purposely didn't talk too much in the video since it is easy to overwhelm a person with dementia. Although I can't use popular music from the 50's & 60's due to copyright laws, I tried to find music that would still be appropriate yet not overwhelming.
